Garbhasana – The Foetus Pose
Garbhasana or the Foetus Pose resembles a foetus in the womb in the final position. Garbhasana brings one back to the original state of mind when we were in the mother’s womb. Our subconscious mind still holds memories of the time that we spend in the mother’s womb. In the mother’s womb we were relatively free of worries and the mind is calm. When we assume the Garbhasana pose, the mind goes back to those seed memories and it calms down our nerves.
How to do Garbhasana (The Foetus Pose)?
*Sit in Padmasana or the Lotus pose.
*Insert the hands into the gap between the thighs and calf muscles of both the legs.
*The elbows should bend around the calf muscles to hold the legs.
*Lift up the legs with the hands. Exhale during this process.
*Hold the ears with the hands. This is the final position. The entire weight of the body is on the buttocks. *Balance yourself in this position.
*Remain in this position for as long as comfortable. Breathing can be slow and normal in this final position. *Concentrate of maintain the balance of the body or on the breath.
Benefits of Garbhasana (The Foetus Pose)
*Garbhasana can be used to control the mind. If one has a sudden bout of anger or anxiety, assuming this
asana can help to reduce the agitation of the mind.
*It can increase appetite.
*It gives as sense of balance.
*Garbhasana is useful for removing nervous disorders.
