Apana Vayu Mudra

Apana Vayu Mudra is a combination of two therapeutic Mudras – Vayu and Apana. This mudra increases the earth element with the fire element and decreases the air element in the body. This Mudra is also called the Mrit Sanjeevani Mudra (one that gives life to a dying person) as practising it can save a person from a ‘Heart Attack’. This Mudra gives instant results and the pain is reduced immediately.

How to Perform Apana Vayu Mudra?

You can find a quiet place and sit comfortably with your spine tall. Light some incense or play meditation music in the background. This is optional but I find it very soothing.

Next, place the tip of your index finger at the base of the thumb (Vayu Mudra) and then join the tips of thumbs with the middle and ring fingers (Apana Mudra). This can also be formed the other way shown in the picture.

The thumb represents the fire element, the middle finger the space element and the ring finger the earth element. Vayu Mudra relieves the pain instantly and Apana Mudra maintains space to reinforce blood circulation to the heart. This mudra can be done with one or both hands.

Practice this mudra by doing it 3 times a day for 2 minutes each time until the symptoms are relieved.
